Consular Updates

China Consulate In Washington DC To Require Personal Appearance For Long-Stay Visas
Beginning September 15, 2014 the China Consulate in Washington DC will require applicants requesting visas with a validity over 180 days to appear in person. The visa categories impacted by this requirement are long-stay work-, dependent-, family-visit and student visas. In the coming days we will be introducing a suite of services to assist travelers requesting these visa types.


Appointment System For Brazil Consulate In New York
To better serve travelers the Consulate of Brazil in New York has implemented a visa submission appointment system. CIBT will schedule an appointment on a traveler's behalf once all completed materials are received. Processing delays can be expected due to high demand for appointments. Currently, the total processing time is approximately 10 weeks and includes the time required to secure an appointment and the processing of the visa.

South Africa: New Entry Policy For Minors, Effective October 1, 2014

Beginning October 1, 2014 South Africa will enforce new entry requirements for all travelers under age 18. This requirement applies to all nationalities whether they need a visa or not. When entering South Africa with both parents travelers under age 18 must present an original, unabridged full birth certificate or a certified copy. If entering with one parent or no parents different rules apply. Refer to our application kits for up to date instructions.

Malaysia: Yellow Fever Vaccination Required For Visas and Entry For Some Nationalities
Effectively immediately certain nationalities are required to present proof of Yellow Fever vaccination to obtain a visa to Malaysia. Those nationals that are visa exempt for travel to Malaysia will be required to provide proof of vaccination upon entry. Our application kits are up to date.


Polio Vaccine Certificate Required for Travel To China - Certain Nationalities
On August 1, 2014 the Chinese government issued a new polio entry requirement that will be in effect until August 1, 2015. Passport holders from the following countries must provide an official Poliomyelitis vaccine certificate issued within the last 12 months: Afghanistan, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Syria. The vaccine documentation must be presented upon entry into China. All travelers without the proper certificate will be administered a polio vaccination at the port of entry and a certificate will be issued. Travelers who refuse to be administered the vaccine will be denied entry by immigration officials.

We are monitoring this dynamic situation and updating our visa instructions as we learn of changes to the normal entry and visa process. The United States Centers for Disease Control has issued an advisory against all non-essential travel to the Republic of Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone due to the worsening of the Ebola virus outbreak in the region. Beginning October 1, 2014 South Africa will enforce new entry requirements for all travelers under age 18. This requirement applies to all nationalities whether they need a visa or not. When entering South Africa with both parents travelers under age 18 must present an original, unabridged full birth certificate or a certified copy. If entering with one parent or no parents different rules apply. Refer to our up to date requirements for full details.

The CIBT offices in the United States and Canada will be closed Monday, September 1, 2014 in observance of Labor Day.  Most consulates in the United States and Canada are also closed.

The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) now requires that travelers demonstrate functioning mobile devices prior to boarding unspecified flights to the United States. Devices that cannot be turned on may be charged at the airport. Those that cannot be charged will be confiscated. TSA has not indicated what will happen to confiscated electronic devices. Since TSA has not listed which airports are enforcing this policy it is advisable that all US inbound passengers travel with electronic devices that are charged.

Albania Temporarily Expands Nationalities Eligible For Visa Exempt Travel
From now until September 25, 2014 nationals of Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and UAE are eligible for visa exempt travel to Albania for a stay of stay up to 90 days for tourism.


Three-Year Multiple Entry Visas For Indian Nationals To Japan
Indian nationals are now eligible for a multiple-entry three-year visa to Japan for tourism and business. To qualify applicants must have previously held a visa to Japan. Travelers may enter Japan as often as they wish during the three-year validity period but each stay is limited to 15 days.

Ghana has suspended Transit Without A Visa for all nationals that require a visa to enter Ghana for business or tourism, including US and Canadian nationals. Electronic Devices On Some Inbound USA Flights Must Be Charged
The United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) now requires that travelers demonstrate functioning mobile devices prior to boarding unspecified flights to the United States. Devices that cannot be turned on may be charged at the airport. Those that cannot be charged will be confiscated. TSA has not indicated what will happen to confiscated electronic devices. Since TSA has not listed which airports are enforcing this policy it is advisable that all US inbound passengers travel with electronic devices that are charged.

India visa processing time frames in the United States consulates are forecasted to remain extended for the foreseeable future. This is due to procedural changes requested by the Embassy of India, including processing visas in order of date of departure for India. Russia Consular Fee Increase For US Nationals
All Russian Consulates in the United States now require a consular fee of $160 for standard processed visa requests for US citizens. Expedited processing fees are unchanged.

Starting July 15, 2014, 10 Nationalities Are Visa Exempt to Kazakhstan For 15 Days
Beginning July 15, 2014 nationals of the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, South Korea, UAE and United Kingdom are visa exempt for up to fifteen days for business and tourism. Individuals with stays longer than 15 days will require a visa. Restrictions apply so please confirm your eligibility here.

New South Africa Entry Requirement For Children Starting October 1, 2014
Beginning October 1, 2014 children 18 and under who enter South Africa will be required to present a certified copy of a full birth certificate. Extracts or copies are not acceptable. If not traveling with both parents then additional documentation is required. For more information about children's requirements visit the consulate website here.

Increased Cambodia Visa Processing Times in USA and Canada
Standard processing of Cambodia visa now takes up to one month. Expedited processing allows travelers to obtain a visa in as little as two days. Fees apply.

Documents that are shipped overnight to USA CIBT offices on Thursday, July 3, 2014 will not arrive in our offices until Monday, July 7, 2014 unless Saturday delivery is requested.
