  • How does the India e-Visa work?

The e-Visa will be processed electronically and sent to the traveler via email. When the traveler arrives in India, they will need to have biometrics (fingerprints) taken at the airport, then their passport will be stamped.

Because the India e-Visa is issued online, it is not necessary to submit an original passport or other documents for processing. A scanned copy is sufficient for the e-Visa to be processed. The traveler must have an original, valid passport while traveling.

Simply complete and submit VisaCentral's online request form and the Indian visa can be processed online.

The Indian e-Visa is issued for a double entry visit with a duration of stay up to 60 days from date of first entry. A maximum of two Indian e-Visas can be issued for the same traveler within one year.

  • What is the difference between an India e-Visa and a traditional Indian Visa?

All visitors to India are legally required to hold a valid visa.

A traditional visa is obtained through an application process where the traveler must submit their original passport along with application materials in order for the visa to be approved. It is stamped inside the passport. While the process itself takes longer and requires more paperwork, the visa that is issued has a longer validity and allows multiple entries.

Eligible citizens traveling for leisure/tourism, business, or medical purposes have the option to apply for an Indian visa online, and have their visa granted electronically. The visa will then get stamped in the passport upon arrival in India, at which time biometrics (fingerprints) will also be taken.

  • Can I apply for an Indian visa on arrival, at the airport?

No, it is not possible to apply for an Indian visa at the airport. All visas, even e-Visas, must be applied for before travel. Most airlines will not let you board without a valid visa.
